LETTERS NEVER DELIVERED · Doctor Kiarla Dimini
Agare,
Yesterday, while reviewing my clinical notes, I found that I had written Deck Rat in the margin of a respectable report.
Sorry, old habits stick.
Anyway, the waterfront study is progressing well.
Serla is healthy. The dispensary has received additional supplies, and the lower quay has managed several days without another entirely avoidable administrative catastrophe.
I should be relieved. And I am.
But there is a peculiar feeling about the harbor when you're gone.
Nobody interrupts my explanations with inappropriate jokes. Nobody makes fun of my handwriting while recording medical notes that resemble the last words of a dying octopus.
And I have not quite found anyone interested in arguing with me about everything.
It's awfully lonely.
I didn't come to Port Shimmer looking for you, Caspian. I came because I believed I could do something worthwhile here. I still do.
But I have learned that when something wonderful happens, you're the first person I want to tell.
And when something goes wrong, I find myself wishing you were here to tell me which official deserves to be called an asshole.
Come back safely, Deck Rat. I have several complaints awaiting your attention.
Yours, when you are behaving yourself, Kiarla
P.S. Travel with me to Sunspira soon. I think I may need to revisit that anatomy lesson you mentioned.
