Four Short Fantasy Romances to Read in One Evening
So many romance books. So little time. What if you want to fall in love with a new world without committing to a 500-page novel?
That's where short fantasy romance comes in. A novella can offer magical settings, memorable characters, romantic tension, and a complete story in 1 or 2 sittings.
I'm Paloma Light, and I write self-contained fantasy romances set across a fictional world I created called Nepenthia. Each story introduces a different couple and corner of it's world, so you can begin wherever your mood takes you.
Here are four places to start.
1. For lovers of shadowy cities and protective heroes
Under Violet Lights — Approximately 50 minutes · Low heat
In the purple-tinged city of Respa, a night-shift baker catches the attention of a guarded supernatural officer. Their connection becomes something more when an old danger returns from the shadows.
Choose this one if you love nighttime atmospheres, supernatural mysteries, and protective romantic leads.
2. For romantics who adore clocks, magic, and elegant estates
A Pocket of Time — Approximately 1 hour · Very low heat
Dorothy Lilou takes a position at a ornate gilded manor belonging to Gideon Dysmas, an enigmatic time mage with a mechanical hand and an extraordinary collection of clockwork birds.
A bit of supernatural workplace tension, a strange temporal mystery, and the possibility of finding time for love.
3. For readers who love otherworldly characters
Stars Beyond Meridian — Approximately 1 hour · Low heat
When Aluma discovers an injured stranger beside a wrecked motorcycle, she offers him a room at her roadside lodge.
Sylph Astrophel is far from home. His eyes hold tiny galaxies, his clothes behave strangely, and he has a remarkable weakness for caramel.
A gentle romance about belonging, extraordinary differences, and finding reasons to stay.
4. For fans of banter and unlikely attraction
Gold at 163% — Approximately 55 minutes · Very low heat
Vitaly Antares is a supernatural solar-adapted athlete who refuses to slow down. Mayuri Tearose is the hydration specialist suddenly responsible for keeping him from overheating.
Their clashing personalities make for a spirited romance filled with teasing, stubbornness, and unexpected tenderness.
Find your next little escape
Whether you're in the mood for violet shadows, gilded clocks, unfamiliar stars, or a little sunshine, each novella is designed to be enjoyed on its own.
